The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime was established in 1997 by combining the United Nations Drug Control Program and the Crime prevention and Criminal Justice Division. It's creation is a direct response to the intertwined and ever present topics of drug trafficking and abuse, the growing globalisation of organised crime, international terrorism and political corruption. It pursues these goals by providing research, guidance and support to governments willing to implement and adopt various related treaties, conventions and protocols.
